Emergency Management

Emergency management is the organization and management of the resources and responsibilities for dealing with all humanitarian aspects of emergencies (preparedness, response, mitigation, and recovery). The aim is to reduce the harmful effects of all hazards, including disasters.

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)

Anyone can become a part of CERT. CERT members learn about crucial life-safety support techniques. 

The next CERT class will be July 29, 2023 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. at Rio Rancho Fire and Rescue Headquarters, 1526 Stephanie Road.

Training includes:

  • Learning to suppress small fires
  • Basic first aid, treatment for shock, and related techniques
  • Evacuation tactics and how to collaborate with local government agencies to support neighborhood exits
  • Search tactics
  • Communications, including the use of radios
  • Fire safety and suppression
