Rio Rancho Youth NFL Flag Football League

Lorenzo Green | Youth Sports Director | Youth Flag Football | 505.891.7810

Girls and boys can play in the Youth Flag Football League, even if they have never played football before. This league provides the basics of football in a structured, non-contact, and safe environment. Games emphasize basic football skills such as passing, catching, defending, and running.

Are you interested in coaching? Please use the link below and fill out the City's volunteer application to become a coach. After the application is complete please contact Lorenzo Green at (505) 891-7810 to specify which school/grade you are interested in volunteering for.

Rio Rancho Youth Basketball League

Lawrence Chavez | Program Specialist | Youth Basketball | 505.891.7215

This league is designed to allow boys and girls in 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades the opportunity to compete against teams from other Rio Rancho schools in the same grade level. Starting in November, each Rio Rancho elementary school will have one or more coed teams, each consisting of 3rd and 4th graders. 5th grade boys will have their own division. Rio Rancho middle schools will suit up two or more teams of 6th graders. There will be a boys team and a girls team. Students attending private school, home school, or those that live outside the Rio Rancho Public School District will be placed on the team at the school they would be attending. All players will be accepted through the online registration deadline.  The method of placing players on a team will be random, but with consideration on a case-by-case basis if there is a special circumstance. While we want your kids to have fun and play alongside their friends, allowing parents or coaches to pick teams poses challenges. The City needs to do its best to avoid the appearance of “team stacking”.

Frequently Asked RRYBL Questions

What time are the practices and where?
The times and dates of the practices will be determined by the volunteer coach. Each team will be allowed to practice once or twice a week. The number of practices and the day of the week that practices take place will be determined by the coach. Practices will be held at the school in which your child attends. Depending on the situation, teams may practice at another location. Third and fourth grade teams will practice from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and fifth and sixth graders will practice from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Do all teams qualify for the post season tournament?
The top 12 teams in each grade division qualify for the tournament. In some cases, there are more than 12 teams in each division.

When are the games?
All games are played typically on Saturdays between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. All games will be played at one of the four middle schools in Rio Rancho.

Who is eligible to play in the Rio Rancho Youth Basketball League?  Do you have to attend a Rio Rancho Public School?  Are home schooled kids eligible to play?
All children (male and female) are eligible to play in the Rio Rancho Youth Basketball League. Participants do not have to live in the Rio Rancho public school district. All participants will be placed on a team that is closest to their residence. In rare instances, participants will be placed on a team that is short players.

Are the Rio Rancho Youth Basketball League teams co-ed?
The 3rd and 4th grade teams are co-ed. The 5th and 6th grade teams are composed of boys and girls teams. The 5th and 6th grade girls league may be combined into one league, depending on the number of teams that sign up.

How will each team be formed and what is the process of being placed on a team?
To avoid team stacking the first 10 players that register will be placed on team one and the second 10 players will make team two for that particular school.  If we have 16 players sign up for a particular school then the first 8 players will make up team one, and the second eight players will make up team two.  We can continue to make as many teams as possible for a particular school. For example 30 players would make up 3 teams for a particular school.

Will team pictures be taken for each team?
No, there will not be a professional photographer to take team pictures. It is suggested that parents take pictures on their own after a game or practice.

What if I would like to register for Rio Rancho Youth Basketball League with cash or check?
You can register for the RRYBL using cash or check by visiting the Parks and Recreation Department Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at: 3200 Civic Center Circle, Suite 100; Rio Rancho, New Mexico 87144.

Are there games or practices over holiday breaks?
Games and practices will not take place over holiday breaks or when school is out of session.

Will trophies be given to every player?
Trophies will only be given to first and second place teams in each grade division after tournament play.  There will also be MVP awards for each grade division.
